Bo-ga-saka
(lit: Sloping road of a boy)

During the years of Bunka (1804-1817), there lived a very beautiful woman.
She fell in love with a young samurai, got pregnant and had a baby boy.
However, it was very hard to marry morganatically at that time.
Then she became a nun and lived as a hermit.
She had never been able to forget her boyfriend.even though she lived with her boy.
At last too much deep love to him had made her crazy.
In the rainy night of May, she killed herself by hanging the Japanese cedar tree.
Her son was left an orphan, and he was taken care of by the neighbors.
However he was wander around the forest and was found starved to death at the forest of Katayama shrine's territory.
After that, people call the slope road where the nun killed herself "Ama ga saka" (A slope road of a nun), and
where the boy died "Bo ga saka"(A slope road of a boy.

In the olded times, around Amagasaka was heavy-wooden area.
Bogasaka is till narrow and swirling slope path.
