Golden Week

There is a cluster of holidays from the end of April
to the beginning of May.

There are four national holidaysnational holidays in this term as follows.

April 29 Showa no Hi (Day of Showa)
May 3: Kempo Kinen-bi (Constitution Memorial Day)
May 4: Greenery Day (Midori no Hi),
May 5: Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day)/Tango no Sekku (Boy's Day)

Many companies (especially manufacturing industry) are closed on May 1st/May Day
though it is not a national holiday.
So, if we take several days off with using a paid vacation, we are able to have long holidays.
This is why this period is called "Golden Week".

Since the weather is good at that time of the year, many Japanese people enjoy traveling or staying at resort areas.
Also people relax all day in their house, etc.
