Handa Spring Floats Festivals
Okkawa Area
Okkawa Hachimansha shrine and Wakamiya-sha shrine
Saturday and Sunday, before or after March 20
Okkawa Area Float festival is held the first in Handa Spring Float Festivals.
This is also called "kenka matsuri"(lit./fight festival).
Though this is a very dangerous festival to carry floats up and down to
the hill,
young men want to be a steersman, who take the first position, to show
how brave he is.
So, it has been said that a man who took the position of a steersman
can marry with the best girl in Okkawa area.
The struggle among young men to take the best position is the highlight
of this festival.
There are four floats named
Miyamotosha float, Genjisha float, Hachimanhsa float and Kagurasha float

Get off at Okkawa station.(approx. 39 min. 570yen)
5-min walk

Take JR Tokaido-honsen line bound for Toyohashi
Change the train at Obu sta. bound for Taketoyo
Get off at Okkawa sta. (approx. 38 min. from Nagoya, 570yen)
Walk 5 minutes
