"Ise Ondo" is one of the most famous folk songs and dances.
It was made in Furuichi where one of the most prosperous pleasure areas (red light district?) in the Edo period.
It had been sung by the Ise Jingu external link pilgrims and spreaded all over Japan.
Worshipping tour to Ise Jingu (shrine) was very popular and people really wanted to visit there once in a life.
We learn this social phenomenon, called "Oise Mairi " in the Edo period, at school
I think it was just like a popular disco music in those days.
Ise Ondo has been kept even today.
