Saru Matsuri

Saru Matsuri was one of the three festivals held by chokushi (an emperor's messenger).
In former times, it had been held on the day of saru (monkey) in February and November,
then it's called "saru matsuri/monkey festival).
Since March 13th in 1880, it has been held on March 13th in each year.

The procession will takes us to the atmosphere of the Heian period..
The Emperor's messenger and the followers wear beautiful costumes in the Heian Period.

After the Emperor's messenger offered the presents from Emperor to Gods,
they will have events of yamato-mai (old dance), azuma-mai (old dance), hikiuma,
and also a party called naorai etc..
