Owari Tsushima Tennousai
Danjiri-bune Gyoji /Asa Matsuri
Japan's Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property
4th Sunday of July
Tsushima Jinja (shrine) and Tenno River
Five Danjiri-bune (festival bost) with Noh-ningyo (Noh doll) go up the
stream toward
the Otabisho (place where the sacred palanquin is lodged during the festival).
The first boat is called "Ichieguruma" which is from former Ichie
Village.
When Ichieguruma comes near the Otabisho, 10 men in loincloths with a pike
jump into the water
one after another and visit the Otabisho. Then they dush toward Tsushima
Shrine and cut off a new shimenawa
which stretched across the stone-bridge there.
Then chigo (samll children in special costume) sitting on guards' shoulders
visit the Otabisho.
They play drums to the tune of the Tsushima-bue fluites at Tsushima Shrine.
