Ueno Tenmangu
(shrine)

A family of Abe no Seimei, a yin-yang master, settled in this area
and Sugawara Michizane was enshrined by them approx. 1,000 years ago.

Sugawara Michizane was a very smart academian and
driven into exile to Dazaifu in Kyushu Island for a crime he did not commit.
He was died there in 903.
Approx. 100 years after, the family of Abe no Seimei (920-1005) was also internally-displaced from the capital, Kyoto.
Then, a part of the family lived in Seimei-yama in Chikusa Ward.
