Robata-yaki/炉端焼き(Irori Style Cooking)
and Sumibi-yaki/炭火焼(Charcoal-grill)
Lit : "Robata 炉端(short for Iroribata 囲炉裏端) " means "near the irori or around the irori",
and "yaki" is a kind of suffix and makes a meaning of "grilled
foods"in this case.
(Irori is a old style stove <picture below> used for heating and
cooking..
Then, "Robatayaki" means a style of cooking/serving/restaurant
and also the foods which served in such restaurants.
Robatayaki restaurants keep a style that a chef directly serve charcoal-grilled
fish, seafood and vegetables
to the customer with a long wooden paddle.
