Alien Registration

at Ward Office in Nagoya

All foreigners intending to remain in Japan for 90 days and over must follow
the necessary Alien Registration procedures to get an Alien Registration ID card.
Education Center for International Students at Nagoya Unversity suggests that
foreign students who receive Mombu-Kagaku-sho ( Ministry of Education, Culture,
Sports, Science and Technology ) scholarships and NUPACE students apply
for their Alien Registration
on the day following their arrival at the local ward office.


You must bring your passport and two identical photos(4.5 cm long X 3.5 cm wide,
taken within the last 6 months without any head covering and showing
only the front view of the upper half of the body, plain background,
two from the same negative film, color or monochrome )

Pictures taken by the digital camera are not acceptable.
If you did not bring proper photos, you can take ones
on the way to the ward office, for about 600 - 1,200 yen.
Write your name on the back of both photos.
Your alien registration ID card will be issued in about 2-3 weeks.
You are required to pickup your ID card during the period which is specified
on the copied application form attached to your passport..

If you change your address, you are required
to go to your local ward office to update
your information with your Alien Registration ID card
within 2 weeks of the move.
You required to carry your Alien Rregistration ID card with you at all times.
If you lost your ID card or its stolen, you must apply for
a replacement card within 2 weeks
When you finish your term of study and return to your home country,
return your ID card to the immigration officer
at your point of departure in Japan (airport).
Students who live in the Nagoya Univ. International Residence
go to the Chikusa Ward Office
to apply for their registration card.
Students who live in the Nagoya Univ. Foreign Students House apply
to the Showa Ward Office.

The office is in front of the bridge over Hirokoji-dori street
When you take exit No. 1, turn to the left.
You will reach Hirokoji-dori street in 1 minute.
Cross the street, turn to the left, and the Ward Office is
in front of the bus stop and a bridge.
